How to make better use of open public data?

Open public data can be a valuable resource for private businesses. Some are using it already, others are struggling to find out where to begin. To make it easier for everyone there is a need to develop best practices and new tools.

The Challenge

There is a huge potential in open public data. Analyses show that public data can stimulate business growth and be the foundation for innovative solutions. But there’s a need for public organisations, businesses and entrepreneurs to get together for the magic to happen. The Danish Business Authority (Erhvervsstyrelsen) wanted to make it easier for public organisations to create successful activities that motivate businesses to use public data.

The Solution

We created a toolkit to help design and execute activities that aim to aid companies in using public data. Each tool was based on best-practices gathered from the most successful public data activities in the last few years. The toolkit was developed through an iterative design process, relying heavily on user-insights and user-testing, in order to make the tools as useful as possible. The toolkit was integrated into The Danish Business Authority’s existing website alongside video-interviews with leading public organisations speaking about their experiences.
