How do you make a natural gem like Stevns Klint accessible for tourists, locals and businesses, while still protecting its majestic natural character?
There are seven Danish locations on UNESCO's World Heritage List - and Stevns Klint is one of them. The unique landscape attracts both tourists and locals in great numbers, and it’s fair to say that Stevns Klint has become a catalyst for local tourism as well as new local industries. The municipality of Stevns (Stevns kommune) needed a strategy that could integrate the interests of the many different stakeholders - including the commercial industries - while at the same time ensuring the protection of the natural environment.
Together with the municipalities of Stevns and Realdania, we created a strategic development plan to overcome this challenge. Through analysis and a collaborative process, we set out to bring the entire area in and around Stevns Klint safely into the future. The plan included a concept for eight sites including the coming visitor center at Stevns Klint itself. The project was carried out in collaboration with the architectural company Leh Studio.
