Aesthetics + architecture = experiences?

The Wadden Sea is a remarkable area with spectacular wildlife. People come from all over the world to experience this natural gem. We set out to uncover, what guests learn at the center and how this affects their overall experience.

Wadden Sea: Transformative Learning Through Innovative Center Design

In 2017 The Wadden Sea reopened with a new exhibition and experience center functioning as a gateway into exploring the national park. Through stunning architecture and beautifully designed exhibitions, the visitors are greeted by the national park. The reopened center received awards for its design and architecture, but how does this type of center shape both learning and experience for the guests?

The solution

Transforming Data into Impact

To understand how guests experience the new center and what they learn, we developed a research design based on solid qualitative and quantitative data collection. Data were analyzed and transformed into insights. The insights were communicated in a report, through a seminar, and in an article about the learning principles at the center. The insights are used both by the Wadden Sea Center (Vadehavscentret) itself and The AP-Møller Foundation, which funded the construction of the center.
